Welcome to Uplift Youth Organisation: Our Journey from Kanungu District Begins Here

Hello and welcome to the very first blog post of Uplift Youth Organisation (UYO) We are so excited to finally have a space to share our story, our work, and the incredible young people we are privileged to serve. Based in the heart of Kanungu District, our journey began with a simple but powerful belief: that every young person in our community, no matter how remote their village, deserves the chance to live a healthy, productive, and self-determined life.

Our Story: Why Uplift Exists
UYO was formally founded in 2018 by Mr. Twinamasiko Vicent and Ms. Kyomukama Edivinah. We saw that many talented and energetic youth in Kanungu and the surrounding villages lacked access to opportunities whether it was skills training, information about their rights, or simply a supportive network to help them turn their ideas into reality. We started by bringing together a small, committed group of young people, using our interpersonal and team-building skills to foster a spirit of personal and community development. From those small beginnings, UYO was born and officially registered as a community-based organisation (CBO) with the Kanungu District Local Government.

Where We Work and What We Do
Our work takes us across Kanungu District, into the neighbouring villages and communities where we live and interact every day. We are not an outside organisation; we are your neighbours, your friends, and your fellow community members. Our mission is to work hand-in-hand with you, as well as with government, NGOs, and the private sector, to empower youth at the family and community level.

So, what does that actually look on the ground? Our focus is on:

  • Advocacy: Ensuring young people’s voices are heard and their rights are protected.
  • Economic Empowerment: Helping youth gain practical skills and access to resources so they can become self-reliant and contribute to our local economy.
  • Holistic Development: Supporting not just the economic needs, but also the social and personal well-being of young people.

What You Can Expect From This Blog
This blog will be a window into our daily work. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be sharing:

  • Stories from the Field: Meet some of the amazing youth we work with and hear their journeys.
  • Program Updates: Learn about our latest projects, workshops, and initiatives in Kanungu and beyond.
  • Impact Reports: Share the progress we’re making together, with stories and statistics.
  • Opportunities to Get Involved: Find out how you, whether you’re a local community member or a supporter from afar, can help us uplift our youth.

A Call to Our Community
To the youth, parents, local leaders, and partners in Kanungu District: this is your blog too. We invite you to follow along, share your thoughts, and join us in this mission. We are stronger when we work together.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to learn about us. The journey to transform the lives of youth in our community is a long one, but it starts with a single step and with this post, we’ve taken it together.

With hope and determination,
The Team at Uplift Youth Organisation (UYO)
